NYLRC
Hello all,
On the 18th of this month, I attended the first meeting of the New York
Land Rover Club in Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island. About 20 Rovers were
there: 2 88's, a 109, 4 Defender 90's, 2 Range Rovers, and about a dozen
Discos. One guy had the GPS Navigation stuff hooked up to a laptop on his
passenger seat. Unfortunately, his disco didn't look like it had ever seen
mud. After all the organizational stuff was dealt with, most (soccer moms
and dads) left to go home. My navigator Jason (i.e. confused guy sitting
shotgun with an atlas) and I had driven four hours that morning from
Philly, we weren't leaving yet. All four D90's stayed, along with the two
88's. Apparently the local police had been alerted to our presence, and
that morning, had hauled a good deal of tree limbs, vines, etc. into the
"entrance" of the "park" in which we were to ride. Whatever, we scouted for
twenty minutes, and finally drove right over it. :)
The trail was cool, deep mud, some tricky obstacles (i.e. mountain bikers).
Like an ass I had just taken the top off of my D90, and my "navigator" and
another driver's girlfriend both took numerous branches in the face. Oh
yeah, ticks too...Ugh...
On a separate note, I finally had the pleasure of meeting Bill, at a pub in
downtown Philly. We had a good time (and he kept insisting that I let him
buy me another beer). He handled my barrage of trivial questions like a
pro, and solved a couple of nagging problems on my car (windshield wipers,
back window on soft top etc.) All in all, it was a great night.
Anyway, if you're interested, the NYLRC's page (violently under
construction) is at:

check it
out. Please disregard how miserable the main graphic looks. Note the pic at
the bottom of the main page :)
I hope all is well with all of you, the shield is looking good. Take care.

P.S. On the way there, Jason and I could swear that we saw Jason Alexander
(Seinfeld's George) in a white Discovery. I waved (because it was a disco),
he turned, and despite very large, dark, glasses, we knew it was George. We
confirmed this when he waved back with a very "George-esque" gesture. (If
you've seen the show, you know what I mean). Does anyone know if he drives
a Discovery? Weird...
