After leaving the
restoration shop, I drove it to another garage, where
it awaited further work. The brakes still needed doing, as did most of the
accessory electrics, and lots of trim work.
First was the disassembly, and that was revealing. Shown left is an image
of a roofing nail used in place of a axle castle nut cotter pin.
The old snail cams looked pretty smooth, I'd received advice both for and
against replacing them. Keep the old ones and re-knotch them ?
Install a
new snail cam adjusting kit ? I decided to get one of the standard
replement kits.
Following the snail cams were new wheel cylinders, shoes, springs and drums, but
before re-assemblying the rear, the hub seals were leaking. This meant the
removal of the rear hubs, dissassembly, re-packing the bearings with grease,
re-installation, and setting the bearings.
